Though San Juan County has passed the minimum time required before moving from Phase 2 to Phase 3 of reopening, the community remains in the more limited phase of Gov. Jay Inslee’s Safe Start reopening plan, according to the Island Sounder.
While transient lodging in the county has been permitted to open at 50% capacity, non essential travel remains prohibited for county residents.
The state website only lists 17 Washington counties that have been permitted to move to Phase 3 and none have progressed to Phase 4.
In order to move to the next phase, San Juan had to wait for the minimum time frame since entering Phase 2, which passed on June 13. In order to transition, agreement must be reached between the county council, board of health and health officer to progress further, according to Island Sounder.
If the county does transition to Phase 3, the ban on non-essential travel will be lifted and capacity restrictions for some businesses will be increased. Additionally, establishments such as bars, pools and gyms will be permitted to reopen.
