San Juan County in Wash. will receive $686,000 in CARES Act funds.
Approximately $190 million in stimulus money will be shared between local governments in that have not yet received money directly from the CARES Act according to Wash. Gov. Jay Inslee as reported in the Islands’ Sounder.
“Our local public health jurisdictions, cities and counties have worked tirelessly since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 appeared in Washington to protect their communities,” Inslee said as reported by the Islands’ Sounder. “This much-needed infusion of funds will help sustain their efforts to stop the spread of this virus.”
San Juan County’s award will come in equal parts from the Department of Commerce and the Department of Health, according to County Manager Mike Thomas as reported in the Islands’ Sounder.
“Counties continue to deliver the critical services needed to combat COVID-19 while also providing support to local businesses and our most vulnerable populations,” said Robert Gelder, Kitsap County commissioner and president of the Washington State Association of Counties, as reported by the Islands’ Sounder.
San Juan County senior budget analyst and COVID Emergency Operations Center Finance and Admin Chair Tara Anderson told the Islands' Sounder as of August the county has incurred approximately $862,000 in expenses resulting from their pandemic response with 72% of that directly from public health activity.
