The San Juan County Council has agreed upon a total of $1,782,734 for Home Fund grants and financing five projects.
The money will help build 59 new affordable housing units and maintain another 19.
Projects that are receiving full grant funding from the Home Fund include: $900,000 for the April's Grove construction project, $32,000 for the Salish Way III construction project, and $150,734 for the Harborview Apartments preservation project. The Council also agreed to partially fund the FishBay Cottages construction project by committing $300,000 and the Holliwalk Homes construction project with an award of $400,000.
This is the second year of funding for the Home Fund program, a 0.5% Real Estate Excise Tax (REET) that was approved by San Juan County voters two years ago. The money is used for development, maintenance, and restoring housing that's affordable to very low, low, and moderate-income persons and those with special needs.
Since last year, the council has distributed more than $2.9 million for affordable housing projects. The Council has always strived to put the money to work quickly.
