The second round of the Working Washington grants, meant to assist the state's small business owners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, has been approved by an independent judging committee, according to an Oct. 14 article from the Economic Development Council of San Juan County, published in the San Juan Journal.
The grant program is offered by the Washington State Department of Commerce, and also includes funding for the Visitors Bureau, the San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild and area local Chambers of Commerce.
Qualifying businesses can receive up to $10,000 once in the program; applicants were prioritized by an independent scoring committee based on impacts to the business from COVID, and closure due to government mandates, staff illness or the inability to comply with social distancing guidelines.
The funds, while limited, were disbursed to 24 San Juan County businesses and totaled $101,814.
The application window closed on October 15.
"The San Juan County Economic Development Council strives to strengthen and diversify the economy of San Juan County," said the article. "We believe a strong economy builds a strong community."
