Columbia College - Whidbey Island issued the following announcement.

Columbia College announced today that the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has acknowledged that the college’s bachelor’s degree in human resources management is now aligned with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. More than 643 students at the college are currently working toward their HR Management major.

Dr. Tina Olson, instructor with the Robert W. Plaster School of Business, can attest to the value of aligning with the SHRM. Olson was presented with the Missouri chapter of the organization’s LEAD (Leadership, Excellence, Achievement and Dedication) Award in 2019.

“The SHRM is the preeminent global organization for HR professionals,” said Olson “The HR curriculum and the SHRM alignment recognition allows students to sit for the SHRM certification exam earlier in their career.”

Throughout the world, over 400 programs at approximately 375 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

“This is excellent news for the Robert W. Plaster School of Business and our students. We are confident this will provide added value.” said the School’s Dean, Dr. Raj Sachdev.
