Artist couple Bruce Morrow and Buffy Cribbs present new paintings in oil on canvas and reverse acrylic on acrylic.

Meet them at their opening reception Saturday, April 1 from 5 pm to 7 pm during Langley’s First Saturday Art Walk.  Their work will be featured all month long.

Narrative paintings of Western Americana are the hallmark of Bruce Morrow’s work. Morrow paints in a loose, direct style with little or no underpainting often using bright colors to achieve fresh, spontaneous images. Humor is a not an uncommon element in his work.

For this show, Morrow has been working on several different projects. Most dear to him is the portrait of Buffy entitled Speak. A series of three paintings depicting angels was inspired by Hopi kachinas, and the show includes several pieces on board inspired by the artist’s view from his garden.

In recent years Buffy’s focus has been on ‘reverse acrylic on acrylic’ painting. In this technique, akin to stained glass painting, the painting gets created on a sheet of plexiglass, painting the details first, which are subsequently covered with background colors. Once done, the plexiglass is turned over to see the finished result.

For this show, the artist has painted several colorful pieces depicting a variety of subjects and two nocturnal landscapes, as well as focused on patterned collaged pieces.
