Our next staff highlight is Gabrielle Conway!
Current position and what island do you live on:

“San Juan County Park Assistant Manager on San Juan Island.”

Where did you grow up:

“For the most part, I grew up in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington.”

Where did you go to college? Degrees? Other skills?

“I have several degrees, mainly received from colleges in California, but my most recent degree was a BS in biology from Hawaii Pacific University. I have also been a certified EMT for almost a decade now.”

Years in parks, recreation, and fair or related field:

“I worked for San Juan county parks for a Summer season in 2015 then started as the Assistant Manager in 2021.”

Favorite aspect of your job:

“I got to say that it’s very amazing to be able to look out the office window or be working out in the park and see whales go by. It’s something I’ll never take for granted. Welcoming campers and visitors to the parks and seeing their enthusiasm to explore our beautiful island is something I look forward to every season.”

Favorite pass project or future project you’re excited about:

“We have so many exciting projects planned for all our parks! I really look forward to the days when all the different island crews get together and work on these projects as a team.”

Other interest outside of parks :

“Traveling! I absolutely love to travel; I’ve been all around the US, Canada, and western Europe. My favorite countries that I’ve been to so far are Ireland, France, and Italy. I’ve spent a lot of time volunteering in Europe, and I hope to do so again. Anytime I can explore somewhere new, I am on board! I also greatly enjoy painting, photography, reading, crocheting, baking, quilting, drawing, and cooking!”
